Adjusting to Dirt Life (and getting ready to hit the road)

It's been a little over 2 months since our last post but we're still here. It's just been a very busy time for the Ward Family as we navigate our transition from full-time seafaring life to land (RV) life. Everyone is doing really well and we're nearly ready to get back underway. We have every intention of continuing to log our adventures.

This is a short post to share the key happenings from our transition and also our rough plans for where we are heading next.

Key Happenings

Finished closing on the sale of our sailboat, “Koinonia.” She was a good ship and carried us far and wide in safety and comfort. It was an amazing adventure we’ll never forget.

Changed our residence from Virginia to Florida and traveled between FL and GA several times getting our drivers licenses, registering to vote, etc. Check out this guy we spotted on a backroad in Georgia driving a motorcycle with several stacks of roofing shingles strapped to the back seat and also wearing a confederate flag helmet. Classy!

Bought a diesel truck and 5th wheel RV from a private seller. The RV is temporarily parked at Ben's parent’s farm, just until we can finish moving into the RV. Ben has been hard at work upgrading systems, installing Starlink, lithium batteries, an inverter, and lots of other projects.

Caught up with family and friends in St Augustine and Jacksonville, FL and then Columbus and Hamilton, GA and Lake Harding, AL. We’ve been catching up with so many people and it’s been wonderful to see so many people we’ve missed seeing.

We also launched a our own yacht brokerage (Ward Yacht Sales) and have recruited a team of brokers and closing/ title specialists. The business is really taking off and we are feeling really excited about it. If anyone is looking to buy or sell a boat, we'd be honored to help!

Where to Next?

The biggest open question, and by far the most frequently asked, is “Where are you going first in your RV?”

We’re not 100% sure but, right now, our general plan is to head north along the east coast in the fall along I-95, stopping along the way until we get to Virginia. Once there, we plan to reconnect with family and friends, as well as collecting our belongings in storage. Then we think we want to loop around through Western Virginia through the Shenandoah Valley before visiting friends in Tennessee. Then, mostly likely, we’ll spend the rest of this year in Florida/ Georgia through New Years, then get back on the road, following the southern route out West visiting as many states and highlights as possible.

We plan to spend most of 2025 out west visiting the National Parks, hiking, biking, fly fishing, hunting, etc. Where and when? We’re not sure but that’s the nomadic life and we’re ok with the uncertainty.

That’s all for now but lots more to come!

Best from our Crew!
